Assisting Same-Sex Couples With Legal Issues In Pennsylvania

On May 20, 2014, Pennsylvania joined all of the New England states, Iowa, Washington, D.C., and Hawaii, when a Middle District judge finally struck down the portion of the marriage law forbidding two people of the same sex from marrying.

Prior to that date, our law firm could not file a divorce action, and we could not draw up estate planning documents naming same-sex partners as spouses. We could not help partners divide their property using the protection of the Divorce Code, nor could we seek spousal support, or alimony. All of that has changed.

LGBTQ+ Advocates For Many Years

At Rowe Law Offices, P.C., we have been helping the LGBT community for many years to overcome obstacles to estate planning, inheritance, adoption and property division because Pennsylvania did not recognize valid same-sex marriages from other states.

We urge you to contact us to set up your estate planning documents. Prenuptial or midnuptial agreements are available to those who may be coming into a relationship with significant premarital assets or children from a prior relationship.

When a relationship has reached a point where it cannot be saved, we can guide you through the divorce process, which for most same-sex couples, will be completely new and unfamiliar. We will be happy to suggest ways to protect yourself and keep things amicable if possible, but we will be there with you if litigation is unavoidable.
