Anyone in Berks County who has gone through a home renovation knows that it can be incredibly stressful, even for those people who really like building something from the ground up. From navigating contractors to making decorating decisions, the process of renovating a room or a house should not be taken on lightly. What is even more stressful, however, is deciding to divorce shortly after a renovation is complete. After all that work, it is not that uncommon for both parties to want to keep the marital home.
Although many people may question just how often couples are getting divorced after completing renovation projects, the statistics show it is more common than they may think. In many situations, the renovation project has just been a way to cover up the problems in the marriage. When the renovation ends, however, there is nothing to distract couples from serious issues plaguing the relationship.
At the same time, there are a number of couples that end because one person has this dream for how their home should look and undergo an extensive renovation project to get there. The other spouse, however, is not interested in the renovation, forcing the other person to make all the decisions. The lack of interest about something as important as a marital home can be difficult for others to process.
Regardless of whether a couple divorces because of a renovation project, any couple that owns their home or apartment will want to work with family law attorneys to make sure that they are getting a fair portion of the home during the divorce settlement.
