Woman appealing $1 billion divorce settlement award

Pennsylvanians may be intrigued by a case out of Oklahoma in which the former wife of an oil tycoon is appealing her award of nearly $1 billion in her divorce. When can a grandparent file for custody of a child?

Grandparents in Pennsylvania sometimes wonder what their legal rights are with regard to child custody. This is especially true when the grandparents feel that the child's parents may not be responsible or suitable caretakers for the child. Pennsylvania does have a process by which grandparents can file for custody. The grandparents must meet certain criteria. Much of the criteria depends on whether the grandparents are filing for full custody or for partial custody of the child.

Grandparents' visitation rights in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania grandparents who have been denied the right to visit their grandchildren may not be aware that they can pursue visitation in court. However, certain circumstances must exist. A birth parent must have died, the parents must be divorced or separated or the child must have lived with the grandparent for at least a year before being removed from the home.
