You can ask for a prenuptial agreement without causing trouble

It’s natural to believe that asking for a prenuptial agreement will lead to an argument with your fiancé.

Although the potential for trouble exists, there are steps you can take to ease the tension and make it easier for both individuals to move forward in the best way possible.

Here are some of the many tips you can follow if you want to ask for a prenuptial agreement without causing more harm than good:

  • Don’t issue demands. If you begin to issue demands, don’t be surprised if your soon-to-be spouse becomes upset and/or shuts down completely. You need to have a conversation about creating a prenuptial agreement, as opposed to telling the other person what you are going to do.
  • Make it a two-way street. A prenuptial agreement is not something you create on your own and ask the other person to sign. Instead, you should work together to create an agreement that benefits both individuals.
  • Talk about your fears. Why do you want to create a prenuptial agreement? Why do you feel this is something that will benefit both parties? You should discuss your fears up front, as this shows the other person that you have thought things through.
  • Don’t get upset or angry. This can be a difficult conversation, but that doesn’t mean you should get upset or angry along the way. Do your best to remain calm, courteous and respectful at all times.
  • Break up the conversation. Even though you want to work through the finer details as quickly as possible, it’s never a bad idea to break up the conversation over the course of several days or weeks. This lessens the likelihood of frustration setting in.

If you want to ask for a prenuptial agreement without causing trouble, these tips should put you on the path to doing just that.

In addition to following these tips, make sure you have a clear idea of what you want to include in the prenuptial agreement. You should also know what you’re not permitted to include by law, as this will help you make the most of your time.
