Quarterback announces divorce from wife

On Behalf of | Apr 24, 2014 | High Asset Divorce |

Anyone in Berks County who follows the Philadelphia Eagles is aware that the team hasn’t done that well in the postseason for several years. The Seahawks, on the other hand recently won the Super Bowl, led by their quarterback Russell Wilson. Wilson, however, has been in the news for something other than his skill on the football field. He has just announced that he and his wife of two years would be divorcing.

The couple have been together lonely slightly younger than two years, but they were only married in January 2012. They met while in high school and stayed together throughout college. Wilson was drafted by the Seahawks in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

While it is unlikely that the quarterback will be filing for divorce in Pennsylvania and the way in which marital property is divided in Washington is quite different from how it is done in Pennsylvania, these sorts of issues need to be addressed here as well as in Washington.

Since they were married shortly before the draft, Wilson’s soon-to-be ex-wife has greater claim to the money he has earned from playing for the Seahawks. Moreover, since it is highly unlikely that she has the ability to earn the same kind of salary as Wilson, his wife might be eligible for spousal support to make her adjustment to living off of a single salary more manageable.

At the same time, since the couple may have suspected that Wilson would end up in the NFL, it is possible that they signed a prenuptial agreement that will dictate how their marital property, including their bank accounts, will be divided or whether the wife is eligible for spousal support. It is currently unknown if the couple had a prenuptial agreement.
